Originally majoring in industrial design, he decided to pick the career of a manga artist before graduating. While the three barely interacted during their school years, him, [Kouji Mori](https://anilist.co/staff/101748/Kouji-Mori) and [Kentaro Miura](https://anilist.co/staff/96868/Kentaro-Miura) were classmates and would eventually become friends, with Miura hiring him as an assistant. He'd work alongside him for five years before going independent and making his manga debut with *Blaster Knuckle* in 1992. A few years later, in 1997, his most notable work - the *Cestvs* series - began, enjoying a successful serialization of over 20 years.

He suffers from retinal tears, which are often the cause of his hiatuses.
