In the 1990s, during the renaissance of Korean pure comics, Kim made her debut with the short story "Chonnom" for the magazine Touch's rookie contest. Her next work, "Hwangmujiui Majimak Dungji", gained explosive popularity due to her distinctive style of drawing as well as the story of rebellious and free youth. She was particularly praised as the writer who best reflected the sentiments of Generation X.

She passed away on 2 June 2011 of cancer. She was working on her last work until the last minute, leaving the message "I'm happy to be able to write a manuscript." on her blog.
