Your cry is his reward
The film "Alien" by the famous director Ridley Scott became the beginning of a whole direction in the genre of cosmic horror. Initially, an ordinary film in preparation, after its release on the screens became very popular. Decades later, the picture received the status of a cult and to this day is a world classic, which is very much loved and appreciated by the audience.
"Alien" became a trend of the time, appeared exactly when acute questions of danger arose, which could lurk somewhere far away in space. People's enthusiasm and dreams of meeting other intelligent life forms in the galaxy were realized in the Voyager spacecraft sent into space, but no one really wondered that it could be dangerous to declare themselves to other inhabitants of the Universe. And this movie perfectly demonstrates how creepy a meeting with life forms unknown to us can be.
A cargo ship receives a distress signal from an uninhabited planet, rushes there according to the rules of the company for which its passengers work, encounters an unknown monster and finds themselves in a situation where they have to fight for their lives. The red line through the whole film is the problem of the relationship between ordinary hard workers and notorious corporations, who, for the sake of their interests, prescribe clauses in contracts under which employees are obliged to study unknown signals from space and risk their lives. In fact, there is something similar in real life, when the fate of a particular person is not as important to the organization as its own benefits. I saw exactly this message of the filmmakers.
Of course, this is not the main theme of "Alien". In the film, suspense, the motley crew of the ship "Nostromo" and, of course, the alien aggressor himself are in the foreground, which terrifies not only the crew members, but also the audience, especially without even appearing in the frame. And this is the skill of the creators of the picture. Today, thanks to modern digital technologies, you can create anything your heart desires on the screen. But that doesn't make movies better. Rather the opposite. Behind the attempts to present the story with the help of bright frames, there is an inability to show the true play of the actors, the persuasiveness of the plot and the events taking place.
Ridley Scott and his team had a fairly limited budget, but they were able to use various tricks to plausibly show the events taking place. Both banal pasta and milk were used to simulate the insides of an android, an ungainly doll in which a person was placed, and many other things. The main thing was the ability to convey emotions, relationships between team members, as well as a strong script and a story that you believe. It was this story that gave rise to a whole mythology, which, by the way, the director himself buried decades later in his sequels.
The "alien" is created using a constant voltage in the frame. There are no cheap tricks of the usual horror movies, when the viewer is frightened by the sudden appearance on the screen of a monster and a wild scream that are designed to scare with their surprise. The film uses masterful techniques: a pressing atmosphere, a pumping soundtrack, excellent work of the operator, enclosed spaces with many places where a monster can wait for the heroes. The mood is created.
Acting is very worthy. The film gathered already experienced and skilled. But they made a kind of "knight move" so that it was not completely clear to us who could stay alive and who could not. This is a great solution that breaks stereotypes and suggests in advance that there are no main characters here, people can die. In "Alien" they demonstrate to us that in fact everything can be, it is definitely worth being ready for any turn of events.
The filmmakers approached their work with full responsibility. Very well-developed characters, everyone's motivations are easy to understand after watching the movie. You empathize with someone, someone is clearly annoying. The technical side of the picture is excellent. During the viewing, there is never a feeling that there is something artificial on the screen. The monster itself, the face grab are worked out thoroughly, we are told about the features of an unknown creature, something unknown appears in the frame, with its own unique anatomy, which was thought out by the creators of the monster. This is done competently and interestingly.
"Alien" was born in 1979, now far away, but the film is still an excellent picture to watch, which has preserved all the best in itself. You will definitely worry about the characters, you will remain in suspense even when the final credits roll and you will definitely appreciate the full potential of the franchise that will appear thanks to the sequel. Films such as Ridley Scott's Alien were and still are reference films. This film is a manual. And many creators are trying to look up to him.
For the audience, this is a constant classic, which is always good.
