Are we following the action closely?
Christopher Nolan's works are mostly unique and memorable. People are ready to revise his projects over and over again, and the works do not become outdated and remain relevant. Prestige is an excellent work of a director who competently confronts the characters with each other, wrapping this confrontation in the colorful world of Nikola Tesla's great discoveries.
Nolan's film is based on a fantasy drama by Christopher Priest, who released a book with the same title in 1995. Nolan's brother Jonathan significantly altered the story, turning it into a script, which the director turned into a colorful thriller. Nolan's vision is, as always, special. His statement is easy enough to guess. The viewer is in suspense from the first to the last frame, watching the development of the story with unprecedented interest.
The non-linearity of the narrative, which, by the way, is familiar to the author of the film, as always, first confuses the viewer and whips up interest, and then competently reveals the whole picture, leading to delight and even bewilderment closer to the finale of the picture.
The success of the film is also possible thanks to the excellent performance of the actors. The film is based not only on the undoubtedly talented and very convincing Hugh Jackman and Christian Bale. Their persuasiveness is complemented by maestro Michael Caine, memorable Scarlett Johansson and Rebecca Hall. Together they build a whole world into which the viewer is immersed with interest.
Years may pass in the picture, but editing and competent narration present us with a full-fledged story, where there is no place for any obvious gaps or distortions. The story looks smooth and monotonous, literally not letting you get bored thanks to the mystery on the screen. After all, the viewer follows not only the confrontation between the heroes of Jackman and Bale, but also their incredible performances, which in themselves are whole performances for the audience.
The fierce struggle shows how magicians-illusionists over time lose their understanding of the limits of what is permissible, are ready to go to the end, even become immoral in order to achieve triumph and emerge victorious from this confrontation. Suddenly you catch yourself thinking that there are no heroes and villains here. Here, each of the magicians is ready to push to the end, not even looking at their families. For them, the main thing is victory.
The denouement is sure to make the viewer perplexed. After all, this is Nolan. He perfectly brings us to the final, escalating the situation and preparing an interesting twist. Especially since we are watching a movie about illusionists. "The Prestige" will definitely make you think about how the viewer would act in the place of this or that hero, what he would be willing to sacrifice for the sake of defeating an opponent, whether such a victory is worth the effort expended and the subsequent shocks.
Christopher Nolan's film will be a great opportunity to enjoy a beautiful picture, a high-quality performance of famous actors, immerse yourself in an unusual plot and a time epoch. Chic costumes, an unforgettable atmosphere and of course the magic of magic tricks will appear before you. Such a film is definitely worth seeing in order to feel the whole story from beginning to end, and in the final to answer the question to yourself about what actions you are ready to do to achieve victory.
