Forsaken in poverty, Damian only wants one thing: to keep his little sister, Kelly, safe. She is all he has left, his last remaining family.
It’s a desire that proves perilous when a simmering conflict between two subversive factions suddenly becomes both an immediate threat to Kelly and Damian’s only way to save her.
Damian joins the battle, but as he soon comes to recognize, this war goes beyond human limitations. In conjunction with conventional weaponry, the soldiers of this war are equipped with genetic enhancements and augmentations, giving them superhuman abilities and powers.
As mysteries of the war’s true nature unravel, Damian must contend with his changing notions of humanity, as well as making the irreparable transition from brother to soldier. Alteration is a story of power, selfishness of all shades, and both the essence and darkest parts of humanity.
