When the Screen Becomes a Mirror "Black Mirror" is a remarkable series. Personally, I see it as a collection of unsettling stories, each of which hits you where it hurts. There is no overarching plot, as such, or a permanent cast of characters (well, almost none). Each episode can be watched separately, as a standalone story about how technology is slowly but surely changing our world. Sometimes for the better. More often, not quite. The stories are all different: sometimes it is digital immortality, sometimes it is a rating system that determines your entire social status. One episode mocks our obsession with likes, while another raises questions about the ethics of using AI. And every time, stories that initially seem purely fictional turn out, on closer inspection, to be frighteningly close to our everyday reality. The series features both relatively unknown actors and performers we've seen many times before, yet never expected to encounter here. There is Salma Hayek, Anthony Mackie, Bryce Dallas Howard, Daniel Kaluuya, Jesse Plemons, Josh Hartnett, Hayley Atwell, and even singer Miley Cyrus, who practically plays herself. Overall, it is fascinating to see such a diverse cast take on completely different stories. The biggest strength of the series lies in its plausibility. Everything that happens on screen could easily appear in tomorrow's news. Charlie Brooker, the creator of the project, builds his stories not around some distant future, but around trends that are already becoming normal today. The scripts are frightening not because of their special effects, but because they never feel far-fetched. Sometimes you laugh, and sometimes you catch yourself realizing that you are genuinely uncomfortable. Each episode brings a new mood. There are touching, romantic stories about love and virtual worlds. And there are harsher ones, like the very first episode, that make you want to turn the screen off — but you can't, because the story is simply too gripping. The visual style also deserves attention. Despite the variety of themes, every episode is filmed in a way that makes you look at a world where technology has become too important. A world where people get lost somewhere between convenience, control, and the desire to simplify everything. And that is the series' main message. It does not angrily declare, "Technology is bad." Instead, it shows that everything depends on us — and on how we choose to use it. Some episodes have received Emmy Awards. For example, "San Junipero" won for Outstanding Television Movie, while "USS Callister" received awards for its writing and as a television movie. And that feels deserved: these episodes demonstrate particularly well how subtly the series works with emotions, genre, and audience expectations. They can frighten you, move you, and stay with you long after the credits roll. "Black Mirror" is not an easy watch. It is a series best watched thoughtfully. Not all at once, not in a binge, but one episode at a time, with breaks in between to think about what you've just seen. Because almost every episode raises a question that has no simple answer. And that means the series is doing exactly what it should. It doesn't just entertain — it makes you think. 8 out of 10
