Set in an alternate, early 20th-century historical universe (homaging classic silent films and Charlie Chaplin's Modern Times), the story departs from the traditional Langley Falls CIA setting. Stan invents a mechanical talking bug/sound device that brings audio to the world, making him wealthy and a rival to business moguls like Roger and Bullock. He later attempts to build a device to turn a black-and-white world into color, only to be ruined when Steve and Hayley activate it, forcing him to return to the farm with his mother, Betty.
