James Bond raises the stakes
The first Bond film "Doctor Know" performed well at the box office, and the audience warmly received the picture. This became an indisputable argument to continue the story of Agent 007 on the big screens. In addition, there were enough sources under the authorship of Ian Fleming for the film adaptation. Then the Caribbean crisis broke out, which, it is believed, could well lead to a nuclear war. And somewhere a long time ago I read that US President John F. Kennedy also loved the book "From Russia with Love". It is believed that all these facts became decisive in order to screen the fifth Bond story, which turned into a sequel to the first James Bond film.
The film clearly surpasses the first picture in beautiful and large-scale scenes. The development of the plot sends the main character to several countries, where he unravels a tangle of conspiracies and encounters the powerful SPECTRUM organization. That, in turn, has plans to destabilize the world, but their cunning plans will surely be destroyed by a British intelligence agent.
The film has become a typical representative of the spy thriller genre. Here we will be shown interesting devices of agents, surveillance, detective and of course wonderful scenes of chases and fights.
I like the storyline with the Soviet intelligence officer Tatiana, who was sent to get the necessary information from Bond. And despite all the abundance of espionage intrigues, the film allows you to feel all the drama of the relationship between the agents.
Bond's enemies, and there are several of them here at once, in my opinion have become more colorful than Dr. Know. Each of them is dangerous in its own way and it is not worth looking at, as if the almost elderly lady Klebb will not become an insidious rival for a strong and prepared James Bond. Grant, performed by Robert Shaw, generally becomes an almost insurmountable difficulty for 007.
Well, the main villain, who is "number one", appeared before the audience as a mystery man. We saw only his hands and a white cat. Now, of course, this is a world-famous image, but at the time of the film's release, I'm sure this villain aroused interest and made people wait for the sequel, where one day he was supposed to be fully revealed.
In this film, the hero of the legendary Sean Connery acted less serious, in my opinion. Somehow Bond in this film does not behave too responsibly compared to the previous picture. Such a difference in characters is striking and does not make the film better. It is clear that Bond is a heartthrob and a ladies' man, but in this film he seems to have shifted the emphasis not on protecting the world, but on interest in women. But this, by the way, did not prevent the screenwriters from making him a winner in all the twists and turns, as always.
The music in the movie is great. One complements a high-quality production and a good visual range. Thus, we are presented with a worthy picture about the world's most famous British intelligence agent, which will certainly interest the viewer, despite the fact that the film was released as early as 1963. And this is his strength — the test of time.
"From Russia with Love" is a dynamic action movie with good—quality characters, high-quality staging and memorable characters.
