Some kind of non-eternal "Eternals"
Each new project (it is new in terms of heroes, not sequels about already familiar heroes) I expect from Marvel with some apprehension. Somehow it so happened that in recent years the introduction of more and more new characters does not lead the Cinematic universe somewhere to new heights. Rather, on the contrary. It is for this reason that I took the first trailer of "Eternals" with some skepticism. However, the second video impressed me greatly, and I changed my status in relation to this project to "expect". And after watching it, time passed. The picture at first seemed quite beautiful and interesting, but there is no feeling of a pleasant aftertaste, the desire to review the film, as it happens with really memorable films. I conclude for myself that the effect of watching in the cinema has disappeared, which means that the real emotions about the film are actually different than they seemed to me immediately after watching the picture.
The creators of the vast Universe once again introduce viewers to a whole new world of heroes, which they are trying to weave into an already existing world. As with previous "Captain Marvel" type paintings, the feeling of artificial introduction of these creatures, which for some reason have never really appeared for a couple of dozen projects, does not leave. Of course, the reason for this is explained to us in the film, but it looks somehow unconvincing.
The two races are fighting against each other, while not getting involved in the conflicts of the Avengers and the like, thereby giving the opportunity for the development of civilization on their own. It looks a little attractive, especially when "behind" such a universal conflict with Thanos, which led to a click that erased half of all living things. Frankly a weak move by the screenwriters.
Another problem that has become quite obvious for large—scale projects of the Film Universe is the introduction of a dozen new heroes at once, with whom you will have to get acquainted within the framework of a two-and-a-half-hour project. It is difficult. It is difficult to get into everyone and understand the motivation of a particular hero. What is missing is the meaningful approach that Kevin Feige used to have, when each project introduced us to a small number of characters, and then a joint crossover was made. This plan worked. But obviously the pace of development of the Cinematic universe is increasing, and therefore, within the framework of one project, we are immediately presented with a whole team.
We must pay tribute to the creators. Given this situation, the viewer is not lost among the mass of heroes. That's because they have their own unique personalities, charismatic, and a famous cast does its job when you see famous actors on the screen and can remember the characters in their performance simply because you know Salma Hayek, Angelina Jolie or the guys from "Game of Thrones" Kit Harington and Richard Madden well. Gemma Chan and bright Kumail Nanjiani, Barry Keoghan and Leah McHugh are also remembered in the project.
It is impossible not to mention the impressive Celestials, a race of cosmic gods who have already flashed before in the Cinematic Universe and presented themselves as something terrifying. Here you can see what power they have and how they can use the Land for their own purposes.
The film is very beautiful. You can't take that away. The visual range is amazing. But as it has been known for a long time — it has not been possible to "leave" only at the expense of the picture for a couple of decades. The viewer is used to the maximum possibilities of the beauty of computer graphics and the ability of the directors to make a beautiful frame. Therefore, it is not this that is evaluated in the film as the main thing, but still the story itself, the development of the plot and, of course, the play of the actors.
"Eternals", in my opinion, is a passing project, an attempt by the franchise to try a new approach again, and the seemingly obvious continuation is now in question due to the small success of the picture. And it's sad. Attempts by Kevin Feige and the company to experiment began to throw the general universe from side to side, thereby dispelling the general direction. Even the most ardent fans of the franchise are beginning to get confused in an increasing number of new heroes. Perhaps it's worth going back to the basics. Because the audience is already beginning to feel a sense of nostalgia for the old heroes, say, the original Avengers. And this is a clear signal that something is wrong with modern paintings.
