The old team goes into a decisive battle The X-Men triquel was necessary. Even after the dramatic end of the second film, I realized that the finale of the trilogy should follow. After all, the story was clearly unfinished. And so in 2006, "20th Century FOX" offers to watch "The Last Stand". The film continues the story of two teams of mutants who seek to end a long-term confrontation between themselves and humans. Everyone strives to come out a winner, but from the very beginning, some of the creators' decisions look questionable. For example, many actors who wanted to see more were deprived of screen time: Rebecca Romayne, James Marsden, Patrick Stewart. Another point is the apparent expansion of Halle Berry's role. The actress, in principle, did not plan to return to the franchise due to strained relations with the director of the dilogy, Bryan Singer, and because of a minor role in the project. However, when Singer decided to direct the film "The Return of Superman" in the same 2006, Berry changed her mind and returned to the X-Men team, however, with the condition that her role would be significantly expanded. And so it happened. And it should be noted that Ororo Monroe, aka Storm, was quite well revealed to the audience. The picture is based on the confrontation of the Dark Phoenix Famke Jansen, who rebelled and decided to join the Magento team. Throughout the film, we watch Logan trying to reason with the girl. Hugh Jackman, who once again played Wolverine, does it quite dramatically, while not forgetting to spice up his lines with a proper share of sarcastic statements. However, there is not much humor in the film. The picture has clearly set a course for a more serious narrative, and director Brett Ratner is escalating the situation, increasing the degree of pathos on the screen. The film introduces the audience to many new characters. This attempt to expand the world of mutants, in my opinion, turns out to be a losing one. We do not have time to remember the new characters and get into their stories, and the old ones are not enough in the frame. Although the appearance of Kitty Pryde performed by Elliot Page gave an interesting love line to the already established relationship between Rogue and Iceman. Anna Paquin and Sean Ashmore showed them well on the screen, respectively. The screenwriters also reveal the storyline of the confrontation between the former friends of Iceman and Pyro, who went on different sides, and in this picture their conflict will be revealed in a good way. Another point (rather negative) is that in an attempt to finish all the previously started storylines and at the same time show two central arches: about the Dark Phoenix and about the "cure" for mutation, the film seems to be stalling. It seems fleeting and at the same time superficial. Even though, as befits a high-quality superhero, the authors brought a decent portion of action scenes, as a result, the picture still feels hastily shot, and I still did not feel the soul in the story, even in the finale, against the background of Wolverine's rumble, which completes this confrontation. Overall, the film came out decent. Good plot moves, a lot of clashes between powerful and not-so-powerful mutants among themselves and with people, an average story. The film allows you to say goodbye to the familiar universe of X-Men, becoming a good conclusion to the trilogy. There are still a lot of new films ahead, which will then make this picture an important cog in the overall film universe. And for this reason, this project is also worthy of attention. 8 out of 10
