When You Hear the Bells(1969)

Banovina, sometime during the 1940s. A communist intelectual from Zagreb is summoned to act as a comissar for a small squadron of soldiers, left to fend on their own against the rapidly advancing enemy forces. But, the ethnic and religous tensions between the men soon lead to them showing their true colors.
