A sequel that surpassed the original
The story of the confrontation between the Terminator and Sarah Connor demanded continuation after the audience warmly accepted the first picture of the little-known at the time of the release of the James Cameron film. However, it was the "Terminator" of 1984 that became the impetus for the development of the director's career. He was busy filming other projects, and was also not ready to take on a sequel, because he understood that his ideas would be difficult to implement with the help of computer technology in the mid-1980s. Working on special effects in the 1989 film "The Abyss" made it clear to James that now he can carry out his plans and show on the screen the continuation of the confrontation between people and machines exactly as he wants.
Arnold Schwarzenegger also put forward a mandatory condition. Cameron should be the director. Then he will star in the sequel. In the end, everything worked out as it should, and the picture saw the light.
The film makes it clear from the very first frames that everything has become much better and more serious. The opening scene of the battle between robots and the human army shows how much the creators have stepped forward. As a result, the whole picture makes you watch the events of the film with unprecedented tension and enjoy seeing rolling explosions, excellent chases, clashes between the defender and the liquidator. You bet. At the time of release, "Terminator 2: Judgment Day" became the most expensive film in the history of cinema with a budget of $ 102 million. Even after 30 years, this is decent money for a blockbuster.
But with each revision of the film, you realize that in addition to the action movie, the film is an excellent drama with well-developed storylines and characters of the characters.
The story is presented to us through precisely verified scenes that explain how this or that hero ended up where he is: Sarah's efforts, which led her to a mental hospital, John, who ended up in a foster family and in fact is almost a criminal, stealing money from ATMs. The narration carefully brings the audience to an unprecedented twist, which was carefully hidden throughout the entire advertising campaign of the film. Oh, what a pity that I don't remember the first time I watched the movie and what my feelings were. It was in childhood, and I could hardly clearly understand what happened when John's defender and the Terminator that was sent to kill him collided for the first time.
Everything is turned upside down, and history only benefits from this turn. Now everything is going differently, the canvas of the film is literally permeated with the idea that people themselves determine their fate, and the future is not predetermined. This is a useful thought for every person. It teaches that we create our own destiny. It is important to overcome difficulties and achieve victories in life.
I liked the story of the relationship between mother and son, who each evolve in their own way on the screen, learn to trust each other, because in fact they seem to be strangers. The dangerous events they have fallen into teach them to trust each other, the world around them and even their protector, which it would seem impossible to achieve. By the end of the picture, mother and son are ready to accept each other, they confess their love. This is a touching moment.
But even more interesting, in my opinion, in the picture Cameron demonstrates the evolution of defender John. After all, initially his mission is only to protect the child. He, finding himself in the society of modern people, becomes humane, learns to live and understand people, is ready to stand to the end to save the boy's life from a deadly killing machine.
All the actors: Schwarzenegger, Patrick, Furlong, Hamilton, Morton are very good in their roles. You believe them, you worry about them.
The picture has an excellent visual component. Even today, this movie looks in one breath. Cool special effects, great dynamic scenes. There is also good music here, which will definitely set you up for the apocalypse of the future from the first frames, because it is inevitable.
"Terminator 2" is an excellent sequel to an equally good first film. This is a worthy continuation and, in my opinion, the end of the story, which did not need the next four sequels. This is a cult movie, a film about love and friendship, about the desire to save human lives, about the fact that even "if a machine can understand the value of human life, then maybe people can one day too."
