The final chapter of the trilogy or a film for the sake of money It is difficult to overestimate the cult trilogy of Francis Ford Coppola "The Godfather". These are landmark films that have become epoch-making pictures. Each in its own time. However, it is the third film that still causes heated debate about its necessity, as such. Someone thinks that this is another and necessary creation of a great director, and someone is absolutely sure that they shot the film for the sake of commercial success. There are also those who think that both options are applicable in one, when they were shooting as a necessary continuation, but they were not even against making money at the same time. My opinion about the film is somewhat neutral. I watched the entire trilogy in one gulp, decades after the release of the third film. For me, the third film is an integral part of the overall story, although it stands out noticeably against the background of the other pictures. However, I always attributed everything to a large time interval between the tapes. After all, the first and second films were released in the first half of the 1970s, and the third part was released already in 1990. Yes. Such a time spread inevitably leads to the fact that you notice a completely different clinker of the picture. The heroes have aged and grown up, yesterday's children of the characters turn from ordinary guys into the main characters, and the aging Michael Corleone seems to have finally decided to rethink his life and sum up some of its results. Such an understanding is quite difficult, because the main character does not want to feel like an old man, still believing that his usual methods continue to work. But the director perfectly shows that the world has changed, competently demonstrating this with a red thread through the whole picture with the help of various tools. It turns out that the maestro is very solid, although at some moments you realize that Michael is no longer the same as the film itself. The film is not made worse by this. He has his strengths. Professionalism and high-quality acting, decent directing, excellent script and all other visual and musical solutions. The escalating atmosphere will definitely lead to an interesting ending, where the actors will show their game at the highest level, and the viewer will see off the credits, realizing that the most interesting gangster saga has ended. You notice something else when viewing. There is a certain roll in this film. Michael Corleone is no longer the dangerous man he was almost 20 years ago. Of course, you can reduce this moment to his age and, so to speak, acquired wisdom, but I remember Michael Vito's father well. He, too, was already a grandfather, but this predator's charisma literally emanated from him. It is clear that the screenwriters did not want to copy their father and let Michael follow in his footsteps, but there is some kind of falsehood, an attempt to whitewash the main character, to give the story more romanticism, showing Michael reasonable and even noble. There is a feeling that either something happened once in Don Corleone's world that broke him and made him weaker, or it really just needed to be according to the authors' idea. In any case, "The Godfather 3" was and remains an integral part of history for me. The film, in its own way, is strong, having its own strong history, which will definitely appeal to you, a story that takes the concept of "family" to a new level, primarily for the heroes of the picture themselves. 10 out of 10
