My new favorite work by King I try to get acquainted with the work of horror master Stephen King in accordance with the chronology of the release of his works. And the author's first novel, Carrie, struck me to the core, becoming his favorite book for many years. However, one day my hands reached the "Green Mile". It changed everything. I still remember the emotions I felt after reading the novel. Sadness, warmth, horror, delight. Everything got mixed up in my head, and "The Green Mile" became my favorite book by King. I have known about the content of the work for a long time, as I have seen the film adaptation of the novel several times. Frank Darabont's excellent film is a wonderful picture that is recognized all over the world. But the original source itself, in my opinion, turned out to be much more personal, atmospheric and unforgettable. King, as before, perfectly conveys on his pages the world he created. A world without embellishments, where there is no black and white. His characters, who are waiting in prison, reveal themselves as full-fledged living people. The author knows how to do this: show readers what a character is like through the prism of their inner world. And each of the characters is a formed personality with its own set of qualities. Everyone has their own problems and worldview, motives and actions. You especially notice how King presents all this, as if demonstrating — look: in this closed society, there is a society in which there is a life according to established laws. There are absolutely no good and absolutely no bad ones here. Read and reason, support this or that hero, but be sure to understand why he is exactly the way he is, and what motivates him. What I like about The Green Mile is that King masterfully places mysticism and fiction in the seemingly real world. These things get into the work carefully and even expectedly. The reader does not get the feeling that he originally read such a fantastic work. This soft insertion into the presented world turns out to be very timely and does not cause dissonance. The good giant John Coffey (we all know that as a drink, it's just spelled differently) appears in a kind of collective way. A collective image of possible miracles that people used to ignore, immersed in the routine of everyday problems. Stephen King's book seems to be about prison life, all its heartbreaking aspects. But when you read it, you can't help but think that the author shows this world in a completely different way. His work becomes intensely personal, because King successfully conveys the world he created as if you had visited it yourself. The Green Mile looks so real. Page after page, new day after new day. You know that everything is heading towards an inevitable ending and you need to somehow prevent a hopeless end. You need to write, tell, shout, finally, that you can't just take this amazing John Coffey creature and send it to the electric chair. After all, the reader knows everything, he understands everything.: how it all turned out, how this giant ended up on death row. After all, the reader sees that the jailers understand this, but your mental cry, as a spectator of these events, remains unheard. And the plot moves on, as if against common sense. Well, try to find a work that touches your soul so much. The finale of the "Green Mile" is devastating and makes you just stay in silence. Alone. Just closing your eyes. It is difficult to move away from the work morally. It bites into the memory in a good way. It will be with me for many years. This is something familiar, as if you yourself have experienced all the events described by the author. This book is about us. About people. It's meant to show how amazing and diverse this world is. There is good and bad in it. The bad and the good. Everyone will put the word that they consider more appropriate and dominant in the first place in this bundle. The world is amazing, sometimes fantastic, but people are often not ready to see something like this, remaining as if aloof from the routine of everyday life. The book is a tragedy. Not only the heroes who exist in it, but also our human one. Often we are unable to prevent something wrong and even immoral. When you read about something like this, you suddenly realize how bitter it is for you to turn over the pages, while remaining only an outside observer of other people's destinies. In the end, it remains only to realize with bitterness that this is not just a book that was interesting to read. It's more than that. What exactly, everyone will decide for themselves. King, as always, gave the world an unforgettable journey into a world of fantastic adventures. Even if he hurt us. 10 out of 10
